The scammer's emails are date-stamped. My comments are in bold.
28 August
Good Day,
I am Gen. Vincent K. Brooks from U.S.A, a General serving with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Afghanistan.
I have a proposition that will be of mutual benefit. It involves the sum of US$44 Million and 24Karate 20kilo gold bar in a security box. The treasure is part of the boxes that my unit discovered inside the Tora Bora while fighting in Afghanistan.
I took the security box containing the cash and gold with the help of a diplomat service to a security company in Europe and I need you to help me in contacting the security company to claim this treasure and ensuring that you keep it safe in your country when you get it.
As a serving General,I can not be parading such amount and treasure hence the need to get a partner that will receive it on my behalf until my tour in Afghanistan is concluded, 35% of the entire treasure is your portion for your contribution in this transaction.
It is of paramount importance that you keep the details of the transaction to yourself. Utmost confidentiality and secrecy are what is needed from you in order to successfully complete this transaction.
However, If you are not capable of handling the transaction, please delete this message and do not tell anyone about it.
Note: This transaction is going to require money to process, as this treasure was sent to the security company in Europe since 2012.
However, If you are not capable of handling the transaction, please delete this message and do not tell anyone about it or reply to this email.
Regards
Gen. Vincent K. Brooks.

So I reply as usual...
Was I supposed to have gotten that message?
Apparently I'm not the only one invited to this party.

I got your email likewise a few others from a business book journal online and my email to these emails is for interested partner.
Sorry about my message to you if you saw it as invading of your privacy.
Sorry about my message to you if you saw it as invading of your privacy.
Let's get the party started anyway, with a free jumbled metaphor.
My question was not concerned with privacy. It had to do with my surprise at receiving an email from a General in the United States Army. As a retired US Marine Captain, I wouldn't have thought that I'd be the first choice for your proposal, but needs must as the fat lady sings, I suppose.
Please explain how this proposal is supposed to work out. I need those details before I can commit to anything.

But the General is... terse in reply:
1 September
Ok.
That was not very helpful.
3 September
Ok.
Good luck then.
4 September
Ok.
Damn this for a game of soldiers!
Why are you being frivolous?
We have an actual answer:
4 September
I think you should be refering that to your self, i don't think any man above 40 years of age will have the time to be on the internet just to joke and play around, i have gone pass you immediately after your second responds to my email, try to have some dignity and show yourself respect, unless you want to prove to me that i am talking to an under-age.
Dignity and respect? Time for some icy pride.
Let me lay out some details for you.
I am 52 years old, retired from the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge, invalided out after sustaining serious wounds from an IED in Fallujah in June 2005. In my eighteen years of service I saw action in both Gulf Wars and Somalia, earning two Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts. I now make a living as a survival instructor.
I am a serious person by temperament, and firmly believe in the idea of you get what you give. I showed you respect, and made a serious request; namely, "Please explain how this proposal is supposed to work out. I need those details before I can commit to anything." Your response of "OK" was dismissive, contemptuous, and insulting to someone who served the same cause that you still serve, and who loves the United States as I'm sure you do.
I await your reply, and I hope that it will be a serious one. An apology would be appropriate.

Dunno quite what to expect. I hope it's not just "Ok."
