"In quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat)
Or in this case… two different scammers send Captain Mal a script involving consignment boxes, but they're claiming to be on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. So where are those boxes? And who will pay to have them moved? This is a variation on the Cascade Bait scenario (see scambaitingforum.com/thread/1109/revised-baiter-slang-phrases-words)
Scammer names have been changed, and scammer emails are date-stamped. My comments are in bold.
First up, a familiar individual (to me, anyway) with some familiar elements.

Attention: MALCOLM REYNOLDS
I’m Mr. Ken Kwasia the Minister of Finance of Ghana and I’m working on the instructions from the office of presidency in Ghana. I wish to bring to your notice about your pending funds sixty seven million dollars ($67,000,000.00) in Bank of Ghana that have been moved to Ecobank Ghana limited for final dispatch and transfer to your nominated account.
Due to so many complaints from foreign businessmen\women that have done transactions in Ghana, our honorable president set up a committee in which I was made the head of the committee and the Inspector General of Police my assistant to look into missing consignment boxes and pending funds in our financial institutions in Ghana. During our investigation we came across your funds in Bank of Ghana I indicated above that has been moved to Ecobank Ghana limited
We also got information about three consignment boxes that have been kept in the KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Warehouse belonging to you with your names and information. A special UN Diplomatic Agent has also been assigned for the delivery of your consignment boxes to you so upon your response to this email I will give you the contact details of Ecobank Ghana limited to reach them for the transfer of your funds and also the contact information of the UN Diplomatic Agent to contact him immediately for the process of the delivery of your consignment boxes to you.
So kindly get back for these details.
Regards
Ken Kwasia
Minister of Finance Ghana
A regular tactic I use with scripts involving Ghanaian finance ministers is to accuse them of some nefarious sting operation involving trying to trap me into accepting consignment boxes belonging to refugee "boys" so that I can be accused of some heinous offence (and in more recent times, QAnon-style horrors). It's not yet the time to take that path, so I reply gently.
Mr Kwasiah
Why is the fund in the bank so large? And when did those consignment boxes turn up? I'm not aware of those.
Regards
Malcolm Reynolds

Not so fast there, Bubba-Louie!
Mr Kwasia
Please don't ignore my questions. I'll ask them again. I have some additional questions.
Why is the fund in the bank so large?
When did those consignment boxes arrive at Kotoka Airport?
Who put the money in the Bank of Ghana in the first place?
Who put those consignment boxes in Kotoka Airport?
Regards
Malcolm Reynolds
There wasn't an immediate answer, but in the meantime this arrived.

Dear Sir,
This is to inform you that Mr. Troy A. Miller, the Acting Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has granted a waiver for the permit for the free movement of your two trunk boxes; and has directed that your two trunk boxes be released without you obtaining the permit.
You are among the over ten thousand persons who are benefiting from this gesture. This is palliative from the CBP to enable owners to receive their goods without further delay.
You are therefore advised to come to our office at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington, DC 20229 and pick up your consignment not later than August 31, 2021.
Failure to comply within the stipulated time, your two trunk boxes will be confiscated as abandoned goods as it has overstayed in our custody without you or your agent coming for it. Please take note and be guided accordingly.
Yours sincerely,
Warren Windling,
Executive Director
US Customs and Border Protection
1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20229
Mr Windling
There is no way for me to be in Washington by August 31, as the borders are closed. But that's not the biggest issue here! The issue is; why would you have those consignment boxes at all?
Regards
Malcolm Reynolds
He's on to the money right away. But I have an idea…
21 August
Attn: Malcolm Reynolds.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your response to our email to you. The boxes were intercepted in one of our operations.
We can release your two boxes to an International Customs Certified License Agent to deliver to you. You are required to pay $1,500 for the delivery fee for the two boxes to be delivered to your house. This is the only money you are required to pay as it will cover ALL clearance charges, fees, taxes, flight ticket etc.
Yours sincerely,
Warren Windling,
Executive Director
US Customs and Border Protection
1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20229
Mr Windling
You misunderstand. There is no reason that you should have possession of those boxes, because they were sent in error. I told Mr Kwasia not to send the money to me, but it seems he went ahead anyway, despite my instructions and the borders being closed, and there is no reason for them to have been sent to the US in any event.
You'll need to send back the boxes to Ghana. I've cc'd Mr Kwasia on this mail.
Regards
Malcolm Reynolds
That was not well received!
23 August
Attn: Malcolm Reynolds.
Dear sir,
This is to confirm receipt of your email.
With regards to request for us to return the goods to Ghana, this is to inform you that it is impossible because it is not the duty of the CBP to do that. If you want the goods to be returned, you have to pay for the return fee. If not, the goods will be confiscated.
Yours sincerely,
Warren Windling,
Executive Director
US Customs and Border Protection
1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20229
I cc'd Kwasia on this one as well.
Mr Windling
You're splitting hairs. The boxes have to return to Ghana, and since I didn't send them to the US, or ask for that to be done, I'm not going to pay for that. Mr Kwasia bears the responsibility for that fuck-up, so bill it to him.
Malcolm Reynolds
Kwasia's back, trying to retrieve the situation.
23 August
Mr. Malcolm Reynolds
I received your email and the content was quite understood. I've passed and instruction to the CEO ecobank Ghana Limited Mr. Daniel Simons to transport your three boxes from Kotoka International airport to the bank and deposit the money in addition to the $67 million which I've already deposited with them , Please get me updated as soon as your three boxes has been transported to the bank.
Regards
Ken Kwasia
And he's called in reinforcements.
23 August 2021
Attention: MALCOLM REYNOLDS

Daniel Simons
CEO ecobank Ghana Limited
Mr Simons
There is nothing for you to do until the boxes are actually at Kotoka Airport, and that won't be happening until Mr Kwasia gets them returned from the US. I'm sure you have plenty to do until then.
Malcolm Reynolds
I cc'd Windling on this.
Mr Kwasia
Those boxes are not at Kotoka Airport; they're in Washington DC, in the US! You need to network with Customs and Border Protection to get them back. And once you've done that, you can answer me this; why the hell did you send those boxes to America?
Malcolm Reynolds
24 August
Mr, Malcom Reynolds
Mr Simons
The boxes are in Washington DC, not at Kotoka Airport, so stop writing to me until they return to Ghana. And you can't have my cell phone number for the simple reason that I don't have one, so stop asking for it.
Malcolm Reynolds
Mr Kwasia, Mr Windling
Please report on the current status of the measures being taken to return the consignment boxes to Ghana.

Attn: Malcolm Reynolds
Dear sir,
This is to confirm receipt of your email.
The boxes are in our custody. Your partner does not seem to know the whereabout of the boxes.
It is either you pay the return fee for us to return the boxes or pay the delivery fee let us deliver to you, otherwise, they will be confiscated. Please take note and be guided accordingly.
Yours sincerely,
Warren Windling,
Executive Director
US Customs and Border Protection

I've sometimes used a modality that involves implying that Ghana has a sizable gay subculture. I'll use it this time. Kwasia was cc'd on this.
Mr Windling
Mr Kwasia is not my "partner" and never has been, so keep your insinuations to yourself, thank you kindly! I know Ghana has a reputation, but it doesn't mean you can sling that kind of snide remark around so damned freely!
Now FYI, Kwasia DOES know where the boxes are, because I actually told him. Hell, I've being cc'ing him on our messages. So it's up to him to arrange the shipment back to Ghana and pay for it, because he sent the boxes to the US without consulting me, and I'm damned if I'll pay for his mistake. So your smug little assertion that I have to do as you say is completely wrong. So please take note and be abashed accordingly.
