Why scammers prefer hangouts to Facebook?
I mean basically it is the same thing if you text someone.

Fake Facebook accounts get shut down easily. Not all, but a lot will be shut down. On hangouts you don't have to make a whole profile, so it's much easier to pretend to be someone you're not. Google doesn't easily close accounts. The disadvantage about hangouts is that they need contacts to play their script and they can't find them on hangouts.
So the scammers 'harvest' on facebook (or other dating sites), and then want to continue talking to their victims on hangouts, where their accounts are safer and it's not likely to lose an account and access to their victims.
