There are people that complain that Facebook and Instagram doesn’t care when scammers start targeting innocent people. They’re still there when they get reported. This one might be the exception. Or he imploded. This one sought me out and did the usual script. I should have directed the chat to Hangouts. Instead I stayed on Facebook. Last Friday, I checked the chat when I clocked out at work for the night, and the chat was gone. The profile was gone. I guess when the scammer saw my character owns a “ranch in Nevada,” I guess one of his buddies saw it, thought “Oh no,” and told him to abort. A perfectly good bait shot to hell. Facebook nuked my scammer: imgur.com/a/N03i2Wf

I am surprised! FaceBook is notoriously apathetic about these matters. It has even removed some reporting tools, eg, it is no longer possible to have a report of a fake account name investigated. I have made so many reports over the years and almost none were upheld.

90% of the reports I've made to Facebook about scammer accounts get ignored by Facebook I've found. It's very rare I see one get deleted.
I recall a recent article published where Facebook reported they recently lost users on Facebook for the month/quarter. They lost more people than they gained... which had me wondering if that's why they don't get rid of scammers. To them they aren't liable for the heinous actions of those users and plus it's another account that they can use on their reports of how well they are doing.
Pretty sure if they were to today nuke all of the accounts that have committed fraud and are only for committing fraud they'd probably be admitting guilt and opening themselves to investigations and plus it would put a HUGE dent in the total number of users they have... which is all they seem to care about... how many registered accounts...

I’m almost thinking the scammer aborted. It’s happened a few times, once when I challenged the scammer in telling me why they’re using a Nigerian number when they claim to be from”Texas, Dallas.” They then said, “I can’t for lying you you anymore,” and self destructed. Another one vanished in mid bait.

When you report an account to facebook, they do nothing, but their systems do recognize certain behaviour that scammers use and when they detect that the close the account automatically. This happens more often and is the number 1 reason scammers want to take their victims to hangouts.

Linoline, I actually have taken the initiative and took a scammer to Hangouts myself just to work my magic. I probably should have done it this time. I’m sure they’ll be back.
