I suppose now again they kind of merge together for me I wonder if it same for yous haha also when you make your baiting character do you guys write like a profile of your character or I am thinking too deep about this 🤣ðŸ˜ðŸ˜‚

Some people take notes on their scammers once the bait has progressed far enough. Others just wing it, maybe look at the email threads.
I believe the methods on developing the characters are as diverse as scambaiters themselves. Some baiters have an inclination towards creative writing that really shows in their baits. Others base their characters mannerisms on people they know or on other characters from TV, books etc.

When you email a scammer you can usually view all the previous replies below by scrolling down. Also, with the email service I use, you can choose to view all the emails sent from one particular address. I never usually remember the emails I sent a week ago.

I never talk to scammers so I'm not sure how to keep track of calls. I take notes and put each email into a separate folder. You probably could take notes of your conversations. I really go into real detail of my characters. They have a back story. Likes, dislikes etc and they are like real people. I keep all the information, of them, in a word document.

Onenote. I keep folders of my characters, of the scammers I bait and I write down important details because I'm confused by nature and will forget a lot if I don't

This question is more for Mr. Pricky but anyone feel free to answer if you know. Who's idea was it for scambaiters to pretend to be the outlet staff in a bait?? I've always wondered who thought that up because let's face it that idea has brought countless audio gold moments 🤣😂

The 'Outlet Chop' was invented in 2011 or 12 by my old baiting friend in Sweden, Dr Mike.

If you have a landline that you answer and discover a scammer on the line, is it ok to waste their time, so long as you are not revealing your identity in any way and not returning the call if given a callback number either in talking to you or a voicemail message left? Edited to Answer - JustColdbooniestomperIt is never wise to bait or "waste" time with a criminal that has your real-life information. Doing so takes a dangerous risk. Is your landline service in your or someone else's real name? I don't know of any company that provides that without ID anymore. We are never going to try and tell you what you can or cannot do in your life - your life is your business, but we will not allow the discussion of it here outside of general baiting safety.

^ It's your decision but I personally wouldn't recommend it. If they have your real landline number then you must assume that they are able to find out your identity. Some minimal time wasting might not carry too much risk, but you have to bear in mind that the more effective you are at wasting their time the more you risk them trying to take action against you. Also be prepared to receive more scam calls if they put you on a list of people who don't immediately hang up and pass you on to other scammers.

I never engage with any scammers or potential scam calls that come into any of my real numbers/emails. Unless I am expecting a call from a known person I never answer calls from unknown numbers or ID withheld, or respond to texts. If it is important then the person calling me will leave a voice mail or send an email from a verifiable address. Not many people have my number, apart from those that need to have it for legit reasons anyway, and mostly I have then saved to my phone book and the calls are announced by Siri - bless her. All my baiting is via anon character capture accounts. I use PAYG sim cards and spare handsets if I need to create a new number or whatsapp account, but rarely do as most baiting I do is via email.

One of my many Questions.. What is the scammers obsession with Whatsapp, or watap, whatap, however they spell it.. they always obsess over getting your number to be in constant contact, if your behind a VPN can they still find your location? Or are they afraid you will talk to another scammer and want to constantly annoy you? I have it but don't use it at all, so just curious why they harass you for WhatsApp?

I haven't experienced this that much. In fact with a recent group of scammers I baited I had to work to persuade them to contact me on WhatsApp. If I don't want to use it then I tell them I am an old man and I don't use it because I am a computer illiterate, or even that I don't know what it is, then they don't usually ask again. Maybe they put in some work to get a WhatsApp number that makes them appear to be from the country they are claiming and want to use the extra credibility? Or maybe they don't speak English very well and want to use a format where less formal language and shorter messages would be more common.

I believe they try and get their victim onto Whatsapp or other platforms because they fear their emails will be shut down quickly. They won’t get the chance to persuade the victim to hand over money.
I could be entirely wrong, but it’s just a guess…

They bait victims into Whatsapp, Telegram, etc. because it costs no money for them to use these messaging platforms. They don't have to pay a penny to call, text or video call their victims on them. Secondly it allows them to verify if the victim is genuine or not. Its very easy for them to video call an victim while hiding their camera and confirm that its an real person. Also the phone numbers they use to create accounts on these platforms can be fake or non existent.
They don't fear that their emails get shut down fast, actually its an bad thing that it closes. It does a bad thing for the 419 scam warning sites and they just take their mailing list with them to an new email address.
Regarding landline service, you want to avoid that. Smart and educated scammers can find out your real life identity easily by just looking your landline up.

Oh i would not take any calls from them. I don't have land line and on my cell unknown numbers are blocked, only ones getting thru have to be in my address book. I had a scammer call me on my fake fb account, i have my camera covered and always have. But i didn't accept his call anyways. I know alot of their fb accounts get shut down quik so I'm sure that is one of the many reasons as well for whatsapp..

You're right LittleBrat. The chance that facebook closes a scammers' account is bigger than with gmail, so they always try to get their victim to a more stable platform like whatsapp or google chat. Also they like to isolate their victim and on whatsapp the interaction between other people is limited compared to facebook.
