I tried to post at Mugu Guestbook I don't know how many times - used 4 different computers and 3 different browsers, and I keep getting this:
I can see that others can post just fine, so I'm beginning to think I actually AM a bot... 
I know I can just go to Fraud Fighters or similar to grab a lad, but I need to seed my catcher in order to keep the lad maillists coming for you guys. |

Are you by any chance using a VPN? What does it say when you click that 'how to fix this'?

I actually experienced the same problems. I assumed it was because I tried it with a relatively new email. Gave up after a few tries

That's reCAPTCHA v3. Quite annoying service that protects sites from spam and abuse. It runs in background of the Mugu Guestbook form. Google does an algorithm on your form request and assigns an score to it. I don't think there is even bypass for it, Google just checks your behaviour over web and assigns score to it.

^ I doubt it. Sure, the site owner claims that it's so. However, my Firefox browser gets a score of 0.7 (on a scale of 0 to 1), which should be good, and my Crome gets 0.9.
Also, I don't have any issues on other sites with the same bot detector. So I maintain that it's a hoax (however counter productive it may be to the site owner).

On a slightly different note ( I’m not quite sure of the technicality of what you are discussing) but during a recent stay in the Canaries I was unable to log in here. There was a VPN on my iPad.
As soon as I returned home I could log in again.
Any answers?

Not a clue. Maybe redo knows. You should be able to log in through a VPN, but Proboards hosts this forum, so maybe they have some settings we are not aware of |

Proboards bans many VPNs. Unfortunately, bad actors use VPNs for illegal activities, so if the VPN has been reported, they ban first and ask questions later. You're usually okay with private or paid VPNs (but not always), but almost all public VPN IP addresses are blocked on Proboards.

I'm the site owner and no I'm not trying to bait the lot of you(!) I really have no idea why this happens occasionally, it's certainly not intentional. If you don't have a friend to post your message for you then you can click the help link to get my email address and contact me about it, and I'll do it for you.
I don't think it's necessarily a VPN issue because some posts do come from VPNs. It could possibly be due to the type of VPN, but this is known only to Google. I'm thinking your score is probably set by your browsing in general, not just at muguguestbook.com
Another possibility is that the google recaptcha service is having issues at the time. If more than one of you were having issues with multiple browsers all around the same timeframe then this could be the answer.
Anyway, I hope you appreciate that without this protection the site would quickly become a cesspit of bot spam.

You have a very good memory haha! I was baiting a lot for a few years around the mid 2000s and I used to have them calling me all day long on my premium number, I was like a one-man lads call centre! I haven't done much baiting since then, just been keeping the guestbook running.
