There's no good answer to that question.
Some scammers will give up almost immediately if you don't play their game. Then there are those who won't give up even when it's obvious that the maga won't pay, no matter how hard you hit them with the clue bat.
Here's one who definitely falls in the second group.
The scammer's emails are date-stamped; his name has been changed. My comments are in bold.

Secondly, I know the source of the funds and you did not execute any contract with the NNPC , although I am the only person privileged to know this information and it is a fact. Why I am making this clear to you is that I can see that you are still making efforts spending money in order to conclude this project.
