I saw online how to do this, and will not repeat the steps as to not encourage any misdeeds. Evidently older and cheaper webcams and security cams did NOT think of IP security. Meaning if you know what terms to google and what way to google them you can find various webcams online. I tried this and was shocked how easy it was. I found security cam footage from an overseas town (See video below). The other google results resulted in footage from a schools computer lab, there was even footage you could access of a woman who was streaming on an adult website. The site I found out this from was a social media site and they person who explained this even showed a result he got of a dude talking on his webcam... likely doing a skype call.
A lot of camera companies thought of IP security as an after thought... so meaning many cameras out there are unsecure and anyone can view what's being done on them just by knowing what to google.

Like always, one need to know the way. But if you know how software works, and internet protocols then it is not that hard to pick your cam and watch it. Basically if you have an extended knowledge about computers and software and are able to write software, noting is safe. Internet security is a non exist. It's a hoax. A hoax that can make you rich in several ways. For the little scriptkiddy's and amateur digital criminals like the Craigslist or Amazon scammers, yes, you can block them. But the real guy who knows, no way. If you know how a firewall is written, you can take it down, go around or exploit a weakness.
This comes with the knowledge and it all depends on the deepest inside of the person who have that knowledge.
For example, i am a welder. I have welded expensive yachts, i have welded all stainless steel parts of mister Trump (yes, that mister Trump) his yacht back in the nineties. I welded in the oil industry, i welded bridges, frames for competition motorcycles. So i know a thing or two about welding. I know how to weld a bridge strong enough for a 5000 ton ore train to safely cross over. But with the knowledge how to weld it the right way, i also have the knowledge how to weld it the wrong way. So i also know how to weld that same bridge in a way that it will collapse by the first ant that step on it.
So the same story goes for anything computer, electronic and software related. The problem with computer related electronics from your smart watch to computers, everything online, GPS equipment, cell phones, drones, everything electronic that has a level of AI (artificial Intelligence) NEED software to make it work. And that is the weak spot.
In the Netherlands there once was a burglar specialized in large companies. He knew every type of lock from the top of his head. He has worked at the development department of a lock manufacturer. If he came up at a new lock, he soon could find out the technical specs of that lock and build him a tool at home to open all that type of locks equally fast as with the original key.
I think this is even a better example then the welding example. If you know how software is build up, you can write yourself a tool to deal with it. Of coarse this is not for everyone, you surely need the talent and quite a lot of education. But a guy like Bill Gates could do it. And knowing the dark side of his personality, he probably has done so.
Have that said, the other party involved in this is the manufacturer of those cameras. To develop a good software protection takes time. It make the camera more expansive, so to have competitive prices on the security market, this protection is poor, out dated or even non exist. And sometimes also with expensive brands on the market, just to make more profit.
There are an awful lot of scams in the security market, from bicycle locks to expensive professional security cameras and even safes. For a few exceptions this market is one big scam. Among the computer nerds it is known for years that companies like McAfee, Norton and other pay to protect software manufacturers create computer viruses to keep you buying.

Small world. Not to dox myself too much, I also deal with welding. My company makes car frames for a major Car company. I used to be several years in the quality control department that oversaw the welds and their integrity. I know for our company the reason why WE did the investigations and inspections of the welds is to allow a bit of safety towards the customer... in not getting sued... but in the long run it meant worse for the customers who would go on to buy the product. Lets say a part fell off (it's rare but has happened... can't elaborate) they can say "Company XYZ provided this data for the welds that were inspected on XYZ day and here is the images saved for those welds" (We have done that a couple times) and the company can fight pesky customer lawsuits and if things really get bad then say "Why are you suing us for that part falling off? This is the company that gave this data and they should be the target of your lawsuit". They could inspect and do quality control of their own product but then if they did that and something did happen then THEY could be found liable in court... instead as it is currently we could be found liable for defective welds.
I say that to bring up this, I wonder if any companies hire out their "Security" to avoid any direct lawsuits...
On a side note I now no longer in the quality depart I had been in for years and now in robotic repair field in the company that trouble shoots and repairs the robotic welders.
