This current scammer I have has been hanging on for six months now. I know many good scambaiter will try to keep a scammer on their hook forever, but at some point, this scammer has got to know they’re not gonna get anywhere with me. This scammer is obviously expecting something from me. Now it’s a gas card they want. I’ve been shifting the conversation away from the card, and each time they message me about the card, I’m either delaying further as myself or I’m speaking as someone else.
I’ve never had a scammer on this long. What makes them hold out for so long?

Not sure what kind of scam are they running there but as time goes by, and the more of their time and attention they've put on a specific target, the more they tend to refuse admitting they aren't ever going to get anything out of them. Of course as long as there aren't any big red flags for them that scream 'joker'. Some will keep engaged even after being hit with the metaphorical giant clue bat.
Very much like victims refusing to admitting being scammed even when evidence is right in front of their eyes. I think it was something called 'the investment effect'.
Also, not my kind of scammer, but romance scammers know very well they're playing a long game and will sometimes have lots of patienxe before actually asking for money, or let a considrable amount of time pass between requests for money.

Many have had their scammers on the hook for years as they've sent them around Africa and done so much more. Never underestimate what someone will do for a ton of money.

I think" Donald J Trump" has finally revealed that he is not really who he claimed to be, but rather another scammer calling himself Reverend Micheal D. White- and what a surprise(not really). I've had the feeling that some of the scammers that I keep running into online knew each other, or were the same. The characteristics of the former president of the USA are: They are hard to get off their script, they stay on the hook for long- very long( months/ years). They gladly spam their victim with up to 10-20 mails.EVERY day!For months/years- no wonder some people break down and pay. He refuses to call the victim but tells them to call him/ his various diplomats and plays on the victim's fear, by pretending to inform the FBI and other places of authority when/if the victim doesn't pay. I wonder if he'll change his name to Joe Biden soon? ... Now you know- He's the guy who's been calling me a joker lately btw

Something to note is that you don't necessarity have to play nice to get and keep a scammer invested. As long as you seem to believe in the scammer, and seem credible, you'll have his interest. Captain Mal's general irascibility, and Cammy's vanity (plus her flashes of bad temper), haven't kept baits from continuing for months at a time, even up to over a year.

Make sure that the money is always sitting out in plain sight. If the scammer starts to show signs of wavering, redirect his gaze back to the money. As Yastreb says, he willing to take a certain degree of abuse when money is staring him in the face.
