Intro

Back in October 2019, I received an email from a guy claiming to have funds in my name.

This frustrating story has four characters.
OR - Me, a man in his 60's with ailing health and no real grasp of technology
JCW - CEO of Federal bank of NY
RT - subordinate of JCW

Original email:

Well,I'm Mr JCW,the scam lose compensation funds delivery agent to Mr NS and I'm hereby contacting this email because I was instructed to, for it belongs to the said NS

The funds here values the sum of US$15.8million dollars.

Which has was awarded to Mr NS on the 3rd day of March 2018 but has not been delivered due to some illegal process either from the beneficiary or the delivery agent.

I'm hereby urging you to send me your full information such as:

Your full name
Phone number
House address
Age
Gender

And nearest airport including the photo of your ID for verification and reconfirmation before delivery

I'm still JCW

Impressed with my honesty and naivety, JCW replies to me.

I receive the sad news.

I am deeply saddened to hear this. Even though I did not know JCW, I am still saddened to hear of his death.

As Philippians 3:20-21 says, But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Who am I speaking to? I trust that JCW left his business in capable hands.

I was directed to talk to the DHL to have my shipment of $10.5M USD (the amount has changed).

I told you from the beginning that all the documents concerning this funds was lost on the day Mr John C William had the accident and died,he managed to tell us that he's on his way to deliver the funds to Mr OR before he gave up to the ghost.

I went to the bank this afternoon, but it was closed. The bank hours have changed and are much shorter due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions here in the UK. A waste of a journey. I called customer services to see if I could do the bank transfer by phone, but they said that was not possible, and that I have to set up online banking. Be aware that I have applied for this and I am waiting for my activation code that I will receive via post. This, I was told this would take up to 5 working days.

This is just as frustrating for me as it is for you, but I'm trying my best here. Please relay this message onto the people at DHL and offer them my apologies, I'm willing to pay any excess fees that I may incur.

I am heading to church now and will be away for the day, but please know that I'm still very much involved and praying that we can get this resolved quickly.

I received this very poorly.

I'm not paying by gift card or Bitcoin. I'm paying by bank transfer. I already told you my plans for the day. I'll be paying by bank transfer, as I said. Not Bitcoin, not gift cards, bank transfer. Either speak to them and tell them to be patient or find another courier.

What we were asking for is nothing but an evidence of payment, you can't just tell the DHL that you made a payment to their account without a proof of it.
This is a business account and a personal account, please go to your app,phone or system and log in to your transaction summary,and send us a photo of where you made the transaction,once confirmed,your delivery will start immediately but try and get us some evidence of payment.

He jumps on his other accounts to harass me for payment slips.

The reason for the need for the slip or receipt is that the DHL are receiving tens and hundreds of payments from different people everyday.
Your payment could be easily be verified through the transaction receipt.
If it's done, online you can still take a screenshot of it and send.

I, myself, I've been making online transfer whenever I didn't make it to the bank, and I always provided that same thing which you are finding it difficult to send.

Meanwhile, I've set up another character who's about to perform the "Kofi Mensah" chop we're all so familiar with. "Victor Bello" an opportunistic scammer and hacker. Victor Bello has contacted me regarding this fund, apologising for the incompetence of RT, JCW and DB.

I am aware you received an email from the dhl regarding payment for the delivery of the consignment boxes to United Kingdom, but there is an error. Mr. Tracy made a mistake in sending you these details. The delivery is not to be handled by dhl but by my contracted UNITED NATIONS couriers here. There will still be a fee but I was given your telephone number and I will call you soon to give you the correct payment details to send the fee to.

I have been telling you that he's nothing but a scammer.

Nonetheless he tries to get things back on track and sends me more bank accounts to send the money to, which I report. Things go quiet for a few days as I tell him I'm going away for a few days, but I will send the money when I am back. He accepts this but tells me to make sure that I call him before I send the money, to confirm the payment details.

About 3 weeks later, nothing arrived. The lads didn't receive the parcel. Instead they received a phone call from the corrupt post office worker, Ebuka
