I sent a message to a lad - Mr S he will be referred to - from my fresh baiting account John C - yesterday at around noon, received a reply at around 5pm and then replied a short while ago.

Dear Mr S, I received your e-mail today with some interest; I would like to know more information so please get back to me at your earliest convenience.

He then sent me a long, textbook Next of Kin format from a banker whose client died in a plane crash - with accompanying link to news article - and his search for someone to stand as a business associate of the deceased due to fruitless attempts to locate any next of kin.

It's not worth posting here, as it is simply a copy-pasted format, along with dubious looking 'paperwork' including a deposit certificate with that infamous red seal(!) that lads love - some things never change.

Anyway, the final line was:

Your immediate response will be appreciated.

So, today I sent him the following.

Dear Mr S,

Thank you for your consideration on this matter, and I have to say I may be interested but have some reservations before I can seriously consider your proposition.

I have never met Mr. <redacted> or any of his family, and furthermore I have never had any business dealings in UAE so I am inexperienced and admittedly quite naive about how business works in that part of the world. As you are aware, I am a resident of the United States.

Again, thank you for you considering me but I am somewhat wary due to my inexperience of business in that part of the world.

I put UAE in inverted commas since I suspect the lad is located in sub-Saharan Africa, but as he's using a Gmail I can't locate his IP in the mail header. We will see when he runs out of pre-written responses, which should be very soon.

I intend to straight bait, portraying a naive small businessman from the United States; striking a balance between willing to defer to the lad's experience in his field, but also being wary and prolonging things with questions and the like. I'll just have to see what type of lad he is.

As I've said before, any observations, tips, or suggestions are more than welcomed - I have not baited in years and so am a bit rusty.

I'll update the thread as it goes.

Well,

- You could use a random scammer name... instead of Mr. S. you can use Samuel. It will be easier for readers.
- Of course you will ask for detailed explanations about every aspect of the business: where is the money deposited, if federal taxes can be paid directly there, at the source? Or if you have to pay taxes yourself... because you don't have enough money for it. What is its percentage and if this can be negotiated etc...
- Normally, you should invent another character (maybe it's your accountant, the one who calculates the annual fees). Depending on the scammer's answers, you can play " the good cop - the bad cop" game with that accountant.
- Obviously, each of your scammer's answers must be proven with the related documents... the accountant will ask for drafts of each documents, in order to study and approve them.
- Your character will want everything to end as soon as possible (and to pay the commission, obviously), but the accountant is very meticulous and you are of course obliged to listen to his advice.

You have to ask one single question every time you talk to the scammer... if he answers one of the questions, in your next message you will refer to something else. And so, of course, taking care to always remember that you are ready to make the payment as soon as all the documents are in order.

My character replies:

I apologise for the lateness of my reply; I have been very busy with other business.

In my first e-mail to me, you said you had found my information from my profile in your search for a reliable person. I would assume you would have my particulars which you are now asking for such as DOB, contact details etc. It seems odd that my personal e-mail address was included but nothing else.

I am wary of this transaction, though I am interested in moving forward. I am simply being cautious, due to some bad dealings I have had in the past with international business partners. I do wish to proceed, but I hope you understand my reticence.

So, I'm suggesting he should have my details on file already. As for an address, is it still customary to provide a fake address? I have a feeling I'll have to send him something so he thinks I'm fully on board, but I'll drag it out a bit if I can.

Never use a real address, because it can bring ITP's in trouble. They barely ever check the address you give them. I usually pick an existing address add a lot of numbers to the last number on the street and you're good to go. If they complain, the house is new and not indexed by google streetview / maps yet.
