I say semi-off topic as troll are not scammers, yet there are similarities. A Youtube troll is, in a way, trying to mentally scam you. It is not about money, but your mind. The troll want you to be in tears or out of your mind of anger. I write this because at this moment i listen to a stream by Ismail Ali and in the chat a old troll by the name of Adolf Hitler came to stir up the chat. So the discussion soon went to trolls and what move them. So i decide to write about the Youtube troll here.
I am a trollbaiter for years. Way before i came in touch with the scambaiting/prank calling phenomenon.
What is trollbaiting?
Quite similar to scambaiting as Scambait Central does. The only difference is there is no money involved. The goal is to hit the troll with his own weapons, which often turn out te be devastating for them. You start by allow the troll to gain power over you. You do as he pleased. When the troll feels the victory he get more and more bold. His needs are satisfied and he enjoy bullying you in a way that comes close to sexual experience. Deep in the trolls mind it actually is an sexual experience. Then slowly but surely you start to answer the troll when you like it, not when he like it. After a while you make clear you do this with a simple line like "i am not reply when you want it, i reply when i want it". From that moment you start, in small steps, to exactly copy his words to use it against him. Troll have difficulties to "look in a mirror". Often they give up. And this is hard for them to do, they lost in public.

In short, he want you to become out of your mind and blow your top of anger, even crying behind the computer. They feed on this "victory" For them it is a display of their "superiority" over you. They won, they are stronger, better, smarter, superior. This is very similar to the behavior of Indian scammers. Only without the money part.

The former classroom bully, the arrogant "always know it all better on every subject" kind of people who often are unemployed, just because of this. They suffer a combination of slightly psychopathic with a large narcissistic personality disorder. They have a pathetic need of attention. Just like a drug addict need his daily shot. In a normal adult discussion, the attention jump from person to person. This is not enough for the Youtube troll, they want it all. And they want it now. The world has to revolve around them. Not only online, but also in real live. But online this is easier to achieve and less risky. The troll is safe behind his computer and totally unknown, untraceable. At least, that is what they think. Trolls can be of every age. They often have multiple Youtube accounts, sometimes up to 40 or more.
How does the Youtube troll works?
First of all, they want to be seen and their appearance only most be chocking and insulting. This is why they often take well known nazi names like Adolf Hitler, Mussolini and the like. But also other cruel dictators will do, like Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Stalin Idi Amin and the rest of them. Also favorite are the names of recent known killers like those of the American school shooters and, of coarse, Isis beheaders. Far most jihadies you see on Youtube are not even Muslim, they are trolls.
They first read the comments, scrutinize it for potential victims. Then they jump in and do the opposite. For example, there is a news video about someone who is arrested for raping and killing a child. Everyone pays their respect for the child and loved ones, and hate on the suspect. Now the troll will be on the hand of the perpetrator. He will, in a serious tone, explain how right he was, and the child "asked" to be raped. The result is, that in no time everyone will jump on him with comments. If not, then he kick start it with his other accounts to play people who are with and against him. This is a 100% succes rate. During his trolling, when it started up, you see that other accounts disappear and the trolls main account stay to harvest al the attention.
Then the troll start to pick on the most upset people and become very personal right away by calling names and insults. They have a serious talent for this. That is their psychopath part. The more they go against them, the more they enjoy. Also here, he can use his other accounts if the attention for him is not generated fast enough.
Trolls will stay on that comment section as long as it generatie attention for him.
Also adding racism in discussions where is no racism at all, often start a good attention harvest for the troll. If not, he soon will start it up himself by using his other accounts.
How to deal with Youtube trolls?
The hardest way is to try to ignore them. But they have a golden talent to be not ignored. Thats why it is hard. They are masters in insulting. Absolute masters. And also very smart in this.
The best thing is to go with them. This can be done in two ways, to trollbait them. Give them victory, play the victim part, be upset, try to reason with him, try to convince him you are right and he is wrong. Let him win. Give him power over you. And when he is about to "cum" you turn the tide around. YOU are now in control, you decide when to answer him, and you start to bully him the exact way he did. The same words, the same phrases. Their all important ego is hurt BIG time now. And often they simply flee. My record troll wrote me 24 messages on Youtube and it took 7 months as i waited for weeks to answer. They will reply, their ego is everything for them.
The second way is to "admit" everything. He was so right about you, he write the truth, he is so good. So much better then you, so superior. You even apologize. Call him sir, mister and the like. Kiss his ass. Lick his butt. However this is what they actually want to feel, they absolutely cant stand this. Becouse they dont get it by their actions, but you force it upon them. Years ago i did this with a few people who joined me. We even continue with our admitting an apologizing behavior on his channel and PM's. After 4 weeks he removed his channel. Probably to come back with a other nazi name the same day..... In the end of the day, they are addicted to attention, no matter how. Negative attention is also attention. And easier to get.
How to recognize a Youtube troll?
Easy one: empty, and/or new or young youtube account. Nazi or other infamous names or insulting or racist names like "Holocaust was right" or "Biko deserve to die". Always popping up in serious discussions about big things like corona nowadays. Being unmannerly, blunt, insulting, so called "intelligent reasoning" in which he try to make you look like a idiot by use of "wise man" words. Able to change a nice discussion in a war in under 2 messages.
Why are this trolls not banned from Youtube, nazi names should be reason enough?
Well, here the money part get involved, but not for the troll. Google who own Youtube is without doubt a criminal company, hence the massive censorship on youtube ongoing corona opinions which is against the US law, the first amendment, the freedom of speech.
Google, the owner of Youtube make money from advertisements. In the internet world, the prize for the advertisements is based upon the amount of clicks. The more clicks a site has, the higher its advertisement value. A click is literally a mouse click. And here we go. Trolls cause havoc. Everyone want to express their anger on trolls which cause a massive amount of clicks world wide. Trolls who have the talent to keep this going on for a while make sure more clicks will come. So they are Youtubes free money makers. Thats why they are not banned and the many Hitlers, Mussolini's, Idi Amins, Kim Ill Sungs keep apprearing. In a way this is a pure scam from google side. People do not come for this and ban them permanently is very simple for Google. But they dont, the taste of money is very, very sweet and addicting.
A last remark, "troll" or "internet troll" originally ment something way different. Originally a troll was someone who put braggers and wise talkers back on their place with a funny, playfull comment. Later "troll"was used for internet bullies as known from Youtube where they have become a serious plague in the corona era.
