I (Mr. John) have for some time been communicating with Mr. Philip who is a prominent bank manager in Nigeria. Everything started with an email from Mr. Philip where he offered me a payment of $16.5M. Of course there were some fees connected to this transaction that I had to pay in advance. Of course I was very interested in moving forward with the deal. The only problem was that I did not have the necessary cash available. After much thinking I suggested a possible solution for Mr. Phillip. I told him in one of our phone conversations that my oldest daughter had given me some gifts, which I had not been using until this day because I honestly did not need them. All of the items are still in their original boxes. She has given me an IPhone 12, but why do I need an Iphone 12 when my old Nokia is working fine? She has also given me an MacBook Pro, but why struggle to learn how to use a new laptop when my old stationary computer is still serving me well? And why do I need a new golden Rolex watch when I already have a watch that is running without any problem? It was very soon that Philip and I agreed that I could make the payment by sending him this items over to Nigeria. I told him, that a sister at my church is often sending packages to churches and charities in Africa, and I was going to ask her to take care of the package on my behalf. I have been ill for a long time, so I am not able to take care of this myself. Philip was of course up to this as well., but he asked me to tell the sister to take a photo of the items before sending them. I agreed of course. Mr. Philip then sent me a receiver name and address in Nigeria. I told Mr. Philip, that in order not to confuse the sister at the church, I would tell her that Mr. Philip is a pastor in Nigeria, that also is doing charity work. He was up to that too I finally told Mr. Philip, that when I get my funds, I will buy the items back, so that my oldest daughter will never know that I have sent the presents I got from her to Africa. Mr. Philip was impressed by my clever way of thinking and doing business. And this is where we are now. The sister at the church is soon going to send Mr. Philip a very positive email

Since Sister Maya has been sick with Covid for some time, it took some time till she could come to my place, pick up the items and send them to Mr. Philip. But yesterday she came Everything went very well and she sent Mr. Philip this nice e-mail: Dear mr. Philip Please let me introduce myself. I am sister Maya xxxxxxxxx, secretary of the church where brother John is a member. Brother John has told me about you and your church, and he has asked me to send you some items for your service at the church and for your charity work. He wanted me to take care of the shipment since he has not been feeling well lately and also since I normally do this on behalf of the church. I have myself been sick with Covid, but by the grace of God I am doing fine now. I am glad to inform you that I have made the shipment today with the shipping company the church has been using for the last 5 years. The shipment has been made to: Mr. Sa...... Tu..... Op.... No. xx, A... Street I.... Lagos, Nigeria The package contains these unused items from brother John: - 1 MacBook Pro laptop - 1 IPhone 12 - 1 gold Rolex watch All the items are packed in original boxes. As a gift from the church to you and your congregation, I have added these items to the package: - 1 package of medicines (talcum powder, anti-fungal cream, painkillers, insect repellent, anti-nausea/diarrhoea medicine, antiseptic cream, bandages) In the package with medicine, I have hidden an envelope with money from the church, which is meant for your congregation and your charity work. I do want to ask your discretion concerning this because strictly it is not allowed to send money this way. I attached for you the invoice of the shipping company and you can track the package through their website. Please be aware that the church has paid all the costs related to the transport of the parcel (customs duties, insurance, handling and transport) so that for the receiver there is nothing to pay upon delivery. If you have any questions or issues, please let me know. Please confirm that you have read my message. I want to wish you all the best with your congregation and your charity work, and I pray for the Lord to bless your ways. Be blessed Maya

Yesterday night, after I had received the email that sister Maya had sent Mr. Philip, I wrote this email to Mr. Philip:
Dear Mr. Philip,
As you can see the sister from our church has now shipped the items.
Without my knowledge she has added some extra items and also hidden an envelope with money in the package. This she had not told me that she would do. I have asked her how much she has sent, and she told me that it is $4,500. Of this she has taken $2.000 from her own money and the rest is from the church.
As I have told you before, I have told the sister from the church that you are a pastor in Nigeria and that you are also doing charity work. That is the reason why she has added this extra gift.
I hope that the parcel can reach you already next week, so that you can relies my funds at the end of next week.
Best regards,
Mr. John
===
Mr. Philip was glad but also very surprised when he found the email from sister Maya and me in his email box. But he has a question for me, so he write me (Mr. John) this short email (only 3 words):
07:08:
Money for what?
===
I (Mr. John) reply to my friend some minutes later:
Dear Mr. Philip,
I have told you that the lady works for the church and that she every week sends supplies to missionaries etc abroad.
That is also why I asked her to help me with the items that I want to send you.
In order not to confuse her I have told her that you are a pastor. I have told you about this earlier. That is the reason why she has added some products and hidden money inside them.
I was just so surprised when I saw it and my suggestion is, that you donate the money to a local church there where you are when you have received the package.
Best regards,
Mr. John
===
Mr. Philip has more questions and send me this email:
08:25:
But you did not send me the picture of the items like I instructed before?
I tracked the package no result yet
===
I reply:
Dear Mr. Philip,
Yes, I told Maya to take photos of the items just as you instructed. When I called her to ask for the pictures, she told me that this is something the shipping company is doing every time they pick up a package from the church. She never does it herself. She told me that they do it as evidence if anything should be lost or get broken. It is my impression that Maya has not understood my request correctly. There has been a misunderstanding. I was also surprised myself that there were no pictures added to her email.
As for the tracking, I cannot really give an answer. I just trust that the tracking will be available soon and that you also will get a confirmation from the shipping company.
Best regards,
Mr. John
===
Mr. Philip is excited and send me shortly after this email back:
Glad to hear it!
I tried it but it's not giving me any news.
What does it say over there?
I also try to find their location here in Lagos Nigeria
===
I try to help him and send him this email back:
Dear Mr. Philip,
This is what it showes when I look on the tracking-page with the tracking number that is on the invoice (3S9.........):
18-02-2021 / 09.13 - Saxxxxxxx. Parcel registered.
I don't know myself how it works when packages are sent to Africa. Since I am ill and since sister Maya is used to send packages to Africa more or less every week, I asked her to do it for me.
I believe we both can be confident that everything is under controll. I myself fully trust sister Maya - everything she does, she does it well. That is the way I know her. My belief is that Mr. Sa.... Tu......Op....... will get the parcel delivered to the address that is mentioned in the invoice.
Best regards,
Mr. John
===
Mr. Philip is excited and askes me:
Has the parcel moved yet?
===
I write back to him:
Dear Mr. Philip,
I can not see that it has.
They are writing this on the tracking webside:
Please allow a 24 hour delay in status updates.
Maybe the parcel has moved, but this has not been registered yet?
I hope that the transport will be fast, because that should make it possible for you to release my funds at the end of next week.
I think I am going back to sleep now for some hours.
Best regards,
Mr. John

Mr. John has a hard time to fall asleep. He keeps on thinking about his bright future with $16.5M on the bank account. He leave his bed and send this email to Mr. Philip:
14:13:
Dear Mr. Philip,
I have tried to sleep for some hours, but I kept on thinking about our deal. I did barely sleep. It is hard for me to grasp fully that about one week from now, my life is going to change dramatically for the better. Now I must always be very careful how I spend my money. In one week from now I don’t need to think like that any more. It is fantastic. I don’t think I will fully understand this till it is a reality.
Mr. Philip, there is one thing I would like you to think about and help me with. I know that sister Maya is going to ask me for more information about your church and what the money she sent concretely will be used for. Do you have the name of any church in your area that I can tell her will get the money?
Best regards,
Mr. John

Mr. Peter from TSC Ltd., who is in charge of the transport of the parcel over to Mr. Philip, has now taken over the correspondence with the receiver. He always wants things to go on correctly and smootly. He therefore send Mr. Philip this email:
Good afternoon, Sir!
My name is Peter ........ and I am the account officer responsible for the delivery of your parcel. The internal security rules impose a certain conduct regarding the correct authentication of the Receiver, therefore we need to be sure that the person who responds to the emails (you) is the right person empowered to take the parcel. I hope you understand the reason for these safety measures. So, to complete the authentication procedure, I need from you the following details:
- your full name (as Receiver of the parcel), exactly as it appears in your identity papers,
- the full delivery address and your phone number, as originally sent by the Sender (Maria Hansen),
- a good quality scanned copy of one of the following documents: National ID Card or Passport or Driver License.
At the time of delivery, you must be able to authenticate yourself with the original identity document, and the representative of our company will verify this by comparing it with the copy already in the internal file. If you do not have valid identity documents (these situations are quite common in Africa), then we will use a biometric authentication procedure (used for people who have not permanently resided and no legally established identity). The Sender paid all the costs related to the transport of the parcel (customs duties, insurance, handling and transport) so that for The Receiver there is nothing to pay upon delivery. If you have any questions or issues, please let me know.
Thank you for using TSC Ltd, the finest in 5-Star Customer Service!

Mr. John (me) and bank manager Philip had a long phone conversation yesterday evening. Mr. Philip said, that he had been in contact with all the shipping companies in Lagos and he had asked them if they were working for TSC Ltd., but non of them knew this company I tried to comfort him and say, that sister Maya has used this company often before, and it always ends up well. They really know what they are doing. We ended up agreeing that we should not stress ourselves thinking too much about all the technicalities concerning the transport. It is my impression that Mr. Philip is following the progress of the transport with excitement I told him that there is one thing that is burdening me. That is that the sister Maya and the church had put a lot of their own money in the package, believing that my “business partner” is a pastor and charity worker. They don’t know, that this is a very confidential deal between me and Philip the bank manager. I told Mr. Philip, that the first thing I will do, when he release my funds, will be to repay the money back to sister Maya and the church. Mr. Philip praised me for this and said, that this shows that I am a very honest and respectful man I also told Mr. Philip, that if he ever contact siterr Maya, it is very important that he titlel himself as a pastor and that he talk about his church work with Maya. If he does not that, he will totally confuse sister Maya. Mr. Philip understood and accepted to do this. You never know how the story will end, but it is my impression that he is still “warm”.

The parcel has moved forward and is now on the African continent. Although the bank manager is following the progress very closely on the web-page of the shipping company, he has still not provided the shipping company with a valid ID or biometric pictures. Therefore the shipment has now been "frozen".

Peter the account manager at TSC has "frozen" the pacrel in Casablanca because the receiver has not yet sent the receiver ID to the shipping company. Hopefully he will react very soon and positively Good morning Sir, I don't know if you receive the previous messages from me, but I have the legal duty to inform you about your package 3S9........... that has arrived in Africa (Morocco). According to the Regulations, we have a duty to ensure that the Receiver of the package (Mr. Sa......... T........... Op..............) is indeed the person who was indicated in the travel documents. - For this, I asked you to send me a copy of the ID for the Receiver (Mr. Sa....... T...... Op.............). - If the Receiver does not have valid identity documents (these situations are quite common in Africa), then we will use a biometric authentication procedure (used for people who have not permanently resided and no legally established identity). - In the absence of an effective communication from you, the package has been temporarily stored in the custody of the local manager in Casablanca and will remain there until these issues are clarified. - If within 14 days from the receipt of this information the package is not taken over, then the abandonment procedure intervenes. The Sender of the parcel will be informed of the situation and, if he accepts the transport costs, then the package will be sent back to the country of origin (USA). - If the Sender refuses the repatriation or refuses to pay for the return transport, then the package will be considered abandoned and it becomes the property of our company. With the hope that I managed to make myself understood, I greet you and assure you of our full consideration. Peter

Peter the account manager at TSC has "frozen" the pacrel in Casablanca because the receiver has not yet sent the receiver ID to the shipping company. Hopefully he will react very soon and positively ... Throughout many such stories, I have noticed that the threat of the abandoned package is extremely mobilizing for our scammers. The idea that someone else will take "their package / their money" annoys them terribly and they try to do everything to prevent it from happening. So, don't be afraid... he will certainly react to the message and follow the orders received.

Philip is also writing to his “business-partner” Mr. John. I think his real motive is to have Mr. John push the transport company to continue with the transport of the parcel and make them ignore the identification requirements.
18:44:
What is going on sir ?
I did not get to hear anything from your side, is everything okay?
Please let me know

Mr. John replies with this short and polite email:
20:57:
Dear Mr. Philip,
Everything is fine. I have spent the day relaxing and watching tv.
When I checked last time on the tracking page, the parcel was in Casablanca. I hope you will be able to get the parcel this week, so you can release my funds.

- I think it is a good idea to emphasize that the lack of identity documents can be overcome through the biometric authentication procedure. - Basically, the company just wants to make sure that the beneficiary receives the package and no one else... of course, it is not mandatory for him to scan the ID, because some copies made with the phone can also be accepted.

Sister Maya has replied to pastor Sa.... (who in reality is bank manager Philip, who again is Mr. Sa....... T......... Op............) 22:05: Dear pastor Sa........ Thank you for your email. Brother John has told me about you and pastor Philip, and that you are also running an orphanage as part of your service. Our church is already sponsoring several orphanages in different African countries and as we come to know your work better, we hopefully can become a permanent sponsor of your work. When I received your email I phoned my American TSC contact to ask him about the status of the parcels. He told me that the package has already arrived in Africa but that they temporarily have frozen the parcel because you have not yet sent them your ID documents (photo of your passport, driving licence etc.). It is very important that you send them your ID as soon as possible. Otherwise you will not be able to receive the parcel.TSC never goes on compromise with this for the sake of both the sender and the receiver. The parcel that I have sent you has a high value. Since I sent you the parcel I have found out on the Net that the value of the watch alone is more than $10.000. I don’t believe that brother John is aware of this and that Rolex is a very special and expensive brand. None of us can afford and tolerate that the parcel ends up in the wrong hands. It is meant for the work at your church and your orphanage and to make a big difference is the life of the poor and helpless. Please pass my greetings to pastor Philip. Be blessed Maya

As you know your parcel has been frozen in Casablanca since the Receiver, Mr. Sa............ T............... Op..........., har failed to send us a valid ID or let us know if he wants to use a biometric authentication procedure. Please be aware that a photo taken with a mobile phone of the Receivers National ID Card or Passport or Driver License passport, is sufficient for us as long as it is of decent quality. I look forward to hearing from you soon. I hope we can settle this issue today so that the transport of the parcel over to you can continue and we can avoid a cancellation. The Receiver Mr. O ...... (who I believe in reality is Mr. Philip) replies to Peter with this short and annoying answer:
12:37:
Please we have everything ready here
Once we get the package, we will drop the information you need
===
Peter from the shipping company only takes a few minutes to reply:
Good afternoon, Sir!
Thank you for your reply, which we understand that way, that you are not willing to comply with our protocols and our way of handling the shipment.
I will now contact the sender, Ms. Maria Hansen, and ask her if she is willing to pay for transporting the parcel back to California, USA, or the shipping company shall take over the parcel. Since it is a high value parcel, it is very likely that the sender will take the first option.
Peter

Tell him that he has until March 08 to take over, after which the abandonment procedure intervenes and the package will remain the property of the local team in Casablanca (because it is obvious that the church will not want to pay the repatriation costs in the USA).

Sorry ... I was too late to take Birlic's advice. Sister Maya has already sent this warning email to Mr. Philip with copy to Mr. John:
16:10:
Dear pastor Sa...... and pastor Philip
I got an email from TSC Ltd some minutes ago where they informed me that pastor Sa......... has refused to send the requested ID to the shipping company.
Peter from TSC told me in his email that TSC takes the identification requirements very seriously and therefore they asked me in the email if the church is ready to pay for having the parcels sent back to the USA.
I must say that I am rather confused about this situation. I have sent several parcels to African countries over the years, and only this year I have made eight shipments with TSC. However, I have never experienced a situation like this before.
I hope that you realise that failing to comply with the requirements of the TSC gives me no other choice than to pay the transport cost for having the parcel sent back to me.
I hope sincerely that you will fulfil the requirements of TSC within 24H. If not I will have no other choice than to request the package sent back to me without further notice.
Since brother John donated most of the items in the package, I have sent him a copy of this email.
Be blessed Maya
