I'll contact The Orphan tomorrow (in about nine or ten hours) about that suggestion. Maybe you can send Mal an email detailing that suggestion that I can forward to the The Orphan.

Well, dear Philemon ignored Joojoo's message... Mal may probably say something like "I was informed by the company representative that you were offered a solid and serious alternative to delivery near to you and that you fucking ignored their messages... are you kidding me, or WTF is going on there?"

The Orphan is now trying to get the scam back where it started...
22 February 0122 AEST/21 February 1522 WAT Sir the source of the gold is not from Sudan. The gold is from Ghana where he own a mining company here before he die. The gold that was deposited in a security company is from Ghana. After I moved from Sudan to Ghana I was told by my late father barrister that my late father left gold bar with security company here in Ghana and I'm the next of kins to the gold that was deposited in the security company. I know you have try your best for me, if you can help me stand to claim the gold from the security company for me and ship it out and help me sell it all then I will be able to get more money to get my life in track and continue my education.
22 February 0127 AEST/21 February 1527 WAT
The gold are from Ghana by origin and deposited insurance security company here in Ghana My late father barrister is still alive he will do anything for me unless I have someone who will stand to claim the gold bar from the security company. Please I need your help to stand for me to claim the gold and ship it to your country.
Not so fast, Bubba-Louie!
You're splitting hairs. So the gold was mined in Ghana? Fine! But the mine was owned by a Sudanese and now belongs to a Sudanese (you); likewise with the gold itself. I can foresee some complications with DHS or whatever the equivalent is in Australia; and given that bringing gold to Australia, which has rich gold mines of its own, would be a tad like shipping oil to Saudi Arabia, questions are bound to be asked. Something else; you wrote, " I'm the next of kins to the gold that was deposited in the security company" and also this a while back "I want you to help me claim the gold out" - why would you need help in getting the gold out to start with? You're the NOK. It shouldn't be a problem. Hell, your late father's barrister can earn his keep by sorting that out. Also, something more positive, maybe; the company offered an olive branch to [Mr Phil]. Seems that an "unofficial delivery" can be made to Lome, in Togo, which is just about next door and involves minimal trouble and expense. I say he should take it, and do the right thing by all of us. Ball's in his court there.
I cc'd Mr Phil on that last email; let's see what he says.

Mr Phil and Mal exchanged emails about the Togo option.
22 February 2015 AEST/1015 WAT How can you agree with those people that I should travel back to Togo. Are you aware I'm working under a company here do you want me to lose my job because of this package. Why can't you order them to re-send the package from Benin to Ghana if really those people are real, this is very simple to do. As I have told [The Orphan] this morning I have wasted the time I took out earlier and I'm not ready to travel to another country of French speaking. Please [Mal] the only option if this true I want my transportation from Accra to Togo be sent to me first or you order them to send the package via FedEx or DHL to Accra Ghana, or they should send back your package to you If this requirement can't ment sorry I will not go anywhere those people in Cotonu are serious people
What's wrong with being serious?
From Accra to Lome is about 120 miles or 200 kilometres. By my standards, that ain't very far; not even a day's drive. Not impressed, dude. Also, you wrote; "first I want my transportation to be sent to me with my hotel bill and the I will use for food" - you want all expenses paid up front, amirite? And how much would you be expecting? Just so you know; swapping the package over the DHL or Fedex is not an option.
Twenty minutes later... and I am sure that Google Maps don't lie.
22 February 2144 AEST/1144 WAT
If must go I need $500 my in and out with food and crossing the border is a problem too because all boarder are closed for now so I have to pay money to cross. Going to Togo is very far and is more 120 miles you mentioned I can't go there and be back same day. If I can get the transportation I will know that the package is real and I will be able talk to my acting manager someone that will cover me up in my work space probably he like to take money from me too. If I will get this then I will arrange for my going
This would be the moment to introduce the idea of sending him the funds by Moneygram...

- Of course, Mal will not agree to repatriate the package, because of the costs and because he wants to punish the orphan for his laziness and stubbornness.
- Mal will obviously try to send some money with MoneyGram. But the package must remain in Benin until the delivery time expires.
- Eventually, Mal can instruct TSC to donate the package to a local orphanage in Parakou... Akwode will find the money and mock Phil.

All right then, I agree. I'll send $700 by Moneygram this afternoon; $500 for all travel expenses and $200 for the Benin fiasco. I'll get back to you once it's done. In return for this, I expect [Mr Phil] to coordinate with the couriers and move with all speed to pick up the package.
STS' Moneygram service has supplied the slip; it'll be sent sometime after 1900 AEST (0900 WAT).

Mr Phil happily supplied details of where to send the money. I've changed the names given to highlight something that will confuse Mal in due course.
23 February 1759 AEST/0759 WAT
You can send money gram to my MTN mobile money account here is the name and number below: Number : +233 xxxxxxxx Network name : MTN First name : SAX-POBERG Last name: PHILOMENA O'GENETIVE Address: Teshie camp2 ,Accra Ghana. Please sir send it to the above details I give to you, it's enter my mobile money account direct then I will pick it up immediately and plan my trip down to Togo. .I will be waiting if anything please let me know. So that I can direct you on how to send money gram through MTN mobile money account.
Unfortunately for Mr Phil, Mal send the money less that half an hour before that email was received.
23 February 1913 AEST/0913 WAT I sent the money before you called. They told me that there's a system for sending money to certain countries, but it's dead easy Follow the procedure spelled out in the attachment and everything will be nice and kentucky.
One of STS' Moneygram printouts was attached.

23 February 1930 AEST/0930 WAT
I need the MTCN/Reference number to be able to pick it up the money here, is not the receipt you send for me. Check and get back to me.
Mal is being stubborn.
There's nothing for me to check. You call the telephone number given on the slip and follow the prompts. It's as easy as falling off a log, so go ahead.

Mr Phil is not finding things easy.
23 February 2050 AEST/1050 WAT
I just call the number in money gram receipt Their line is not clear when it's come to here to give me the reference number: 66274 Above number is the only number that is clear and after this number the phone will cut off. I have try it several times, same thing will repeat itself. It's cut off Please call money office to give the reference number by themselves so that you email it to me. I have been to the money gram office here and said the sender should call the office and ask for the reference number yourself and send it to me.
23 February 2050 AEST/1050 WAT Please if you know how to use Bitcoin, you can send through Bitcoin for me I will get it immediately in my Bitcoin wallet here. Here is my Bitcoin receiving address below; Receiving address: REDACTED You can send it to the above Bitcoin address. If you can that will be easier and faster for me to get here

24 February 0129 AEST/23 February 1529 WAT
I have try to call the number on the slip for so many time but I could not get the Reference number to pick up the money here, I took the receipt to money gram office, they said the sender you should call the office where the fund was sent to give you the Reference number by their self. Please find below, the full name and the correct spelling and it has be correct before I can pick it up here. First name: REDACTED Last name: REDACTED Address: REDACTED Please sir, try and call the office to give you Reference number And try and correct the receivers name which I have given to you above. [REDACTED PHONE NUMBER] you can call me or send me your number
In the meantime, Mal replied to Mr Phil's email of 23 February 2050 AEST/1050 WAT, and kept it brief.
I can't get the number for you. That's not how it works.
Mal will reply to the other emails over the next few hours.

OK, I decided to send down a curve ball (or bowl a googly).
24 February 1218 AEST/0218 WAT
You're suggesting Bitcoin? I don't know anyone who has ever used Bitcoin, and I'm glad of that! Bitcoin is the preferred method for Dark Web transactions involving drug deals, hired killers and child pornography.
I was inspired by Eileen Ormsby's excellent book The Darkest Web, which examines the fact and fiction about the Dark Web, especially the three categories mentioned above (partly true; false (there are killers for hire on the Dark Web, but they are con men, and she compares their methods to 419 scammers); and terrifyingly real). Bitcoin plays a part in every one of those categories.

Mr Phil is very quick to reply! He's clearly staying up late.
24 February 1345 AEST/0345 WAT
Even I took receipt of what you sent for me to money gram office, they said you should call the office and they will give to you. This show is difficult to get the number if I can get the number from them not even money gram office here cannot get it also , that has to tell you that it's can't be picked up here. If you said you cannot take the reference number for me is like u do not want me to pick the money here. Then is better you go and withdraw the back from money gram office.
24 February 1348 AEST/0348 WAT
Africa here we used Bitcoin to buy things or and do any other things here. Is being regulated by the center bank of Ghana here is very fast and easy here to trade.
24 February 1505 AEST/0505 WAT
I want you to try and rectify the issue at money gram, so that I can be able to get the money pick up here. And by Saturday I will prepare to go and meet them for the package at Togo. Try and call the office of money to re- change the service so that they can give you the reference number if you want me to pick up the money here. Please I'm waiting for you and please make the name I sent you is correct First name: REDACTED Last name: REDACTED Address: REDACTED Please make you send it this name so that I can get the money here. I will be waiting to hear from you time is going so that I can prepare for the journey
Mal is going to focus on the second email. Mr Phil made a stupid claim; the whole point about Bitcoin is that it's not regulated or administered by banks! That is going to cause a roadblock as Mal's suspicions run wild.

In a series of calls in the evening (AEST), things didn't go well. Mal tried to reason with The Orphan, but failed, partly because The Orphan was in a noisy place. Then he exchanged harsh words with Mr Phil. And in the final call, The Orphan David finally alienated Mal with a badly chosen lie and an implication of dishonesty.
24 February 2127 AEST/0927 WAT
Please [Mr Phil] said he can't get the money you sent him, he said the money gram office here said you should try and take the reference number from them but you refuse. He said you refuse that you are not going to do anything please sir I beg you you have help me try your best for me so that he will able to pick the money from the money gram here I want him to go to Togo to meet up with the people to collect the package for me.
24 February 2215 AEST/1215 WAT
Where the fuck were you? At first it was bedlam like a house party, and then police sirens, and finally a fucking racetrack! I tell you to find somewhere quiet, and you go somewhere worse! You were saying that Bitcoin is good. I'm saying that it isn't. Bitcoin is the preferred method for Dark Web transactions such as drug deals, hiring killers and trading in child pornography. That is why I do not and cannot trust [Mr Phil], but you didn't want to hear the facts. Rather than listen, you ended the call.
24 February 2237 AEST/1237 WAT
Dear Mr R... Let this be the first and last warning when you call me and u will be insulting me on phone and call me names I have never taken your money neither I have taken your package. You can go to hell with your $ 700 dollars and the fake package you sent to Cotonu. I'm going to give [The Orphan] strong warning if he ever step on my house or come close to me I will deal with him. You and Abbas can go and die Don't ever in your life contact me again and also warn that your little rat called [The Orphan] if I ever set my eyes on him in my house again he can't never live to explain what will happen to him. Idiot senless man like you
Mal's reply includes references to both Taken and Serenity.
You don't scare me, asshole. I'm a US Marine Captain. I developed a particular set of skills during eighteen years of service to my country that would make me a nightmare to people like you. Don't risk finding out what I learned. It would be your last lesson. I thought David Abbas was someone you cared for. He trusts you, just like a child. That's why you're grooming him. But if you should kill him, I won't shed any tears. I look after me and mine, and that don't include him unless I conjure it does.
24 February 2245 AEST/1245 WAT

Sent 1 March 2021, 2225 AEST/1225 WAT The contents of the package are being given to local orphanages. I'll be able to claim that on tax, which means that I won't lose everything; maybe half of all I spent. That's all I have to say about this farce.

Post by Birlic on Mar 2, 2021 22:53:30 GMT
Muhahahaha! Maybe the poor orphan could be part of a newly established parish? Of course, all the members of the new parish will be properly sponsored. The only condition is that the Orphan find a faithful and extremely diligent man, who wants to be appointed Reverend of the Church of the Holy Lamb. Father Eduard and Sister Dave will be happy to assist that potential Reverend. Malcolm might suggest to the Orphan that mr. Philemon could be that Reverend? In this way, mr. Philemon could become the leader of the new parish and recover his financial losses?

Mal has stressed his lack of religion, so having him recommend The Orphan to any church wouldn't ring true; but if someone he'd met in Alice Springs (a tourist from foreign parts) had got in touch again, heard about The Orphan's "plight" and volunteered to help, it wouldn't be an issue if she was now devoutly religious.
